If you wish to keep some content concealed from the public eye, you can enable password protection for a particular folder - either the main website folder or a different one below it. In case this option is turned on, a pop-up shall appear each and every time somebody attempts to open the folder in question or clicks on a direct link which goes a few levels deeper, so login details shall be needed for www.domain.com/folder/image.jpg when you have secured only the domain.com folder. If the credentials aren't valid, a “403 Forbidden” message shall appear and there is no way to get around this restriction, so you can be certain that no one shall be able access the shielded content. The feature could be beneficial in various scenarios - if only a number of individuals must be able to see certain files, if you work on a site and you do not want people to see it before it's completed, etc.
Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Hosting
If you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, you shall be able to secure any content that you have uploaded via our protection tool. Its interface is as simple and intuitive as that of the Hepsia Control Panel it is part of, so you shall not have to type in any code at any time. You'll simply have to pick one of the domains/subdomains which you have inside the hosting account and to choose which folder needs to be password-protected - the website’s root folder or some folder below it. You may then type the username and the password, that'll be stored in encrypted form in our system, and you shall be ready. The protection shall be activated instantly, so anyone that tries to access the freshly secured folder will have to enter the accurate login details. If various individuals must be able to access precisely the same content, you could make a separate username for each.
